The Justin 5 unit is a 35-bed Surgical Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Burn Unit. Initially opening with 18 surgical trauma PCU beds and 9 burn beds, it plans to expand to the full 35 beds later in the year. This unit provides higher-acuity surgical trauma and burn care, including treatment in a dedicated hydrotherapy procedure room for the burn population. Staff are expected to work across both care areas, despite differing patient populations, as this is one integrated unit. The role involves providing patient care and assistance based on the plan of care and patient/family preferences, collecting and reporting patient data, and supporting admission, transfer, and discharge processes. The technician will perform technical procedures safely, document care accurately, and collaborate with nurses to adapt care for diverse populations and cultural needs. Maintaining a clean, safe environment, proactively meeting patient and visitor needs, demonstrating teamwork, flexibility, and effective communication across disciplines, participating in process improvement, adhering to safety goals, and advocating for patients are also key aspects of the role.
