The Patient Care Technician will assist patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, and using the bedpan or urinal. They will also be responsible for positioning patients, answering call lights, and making beds, all under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The role involves assisting with patient exercises and ambulation, utilizing proper body mechanics, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Additionally, the technician will obtain vital signs, monitor input and output, perform accu-checks, and report any abnormalities to the nurse. Other duties may include performing EKGs, perineal care, emptying foley bags, applying restraints, and giving backrubs. The technician will also collect specimens, document patient care in the electronic medical record, and assist nursing and clerical staff with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, ambulation, transportation, and observation. Answering unit phones and directing calls appropriately is also part of the role. The technician may also perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
