About The Position
As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), you will deliver essential direct patient care under the supervision of the clinical team, applying knowledge of basic patient care principles and medical terminology. Daily duties include assisting patients with personal care, mobility, and feeding; monitoring vital signs; documenting observations; and maintaining a therapeutic, organized patient environment. You will work with the nursing team to prepare patients for procedures or transport. Success requires a passion for patient well-being, diligence, keen observation of patient conditions, and a proactive approach to continuous learning and professional development. The role is at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, a 571-bed nonprofit hospital. The hospital includes Barrow Neurological Institute, Norton Thoracic Institute, and a Level I Trauma Center.
Requirements
- Completion of a nursing assistant program, EMT program, or the first block of a nursing program.
- Emergency Medical Technician certification (State of Arizona) or Certified Nursing Assistant certification (State of Arizona).
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS).
Responsibilities
- Assist the nurse or physician during examinations, treatments, and procedures as requested.
- Retrieve necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assist with patient and equipment preparation.
- Perform follow-up actions as directed and prepare patients for transportation to other departments or areas.
- Document clinically relevant findings in the patient’s record according to hospital protocols.
- Assist patients with personal care, mobility, and feeding.
- Monitor vital signs and maintain a therapeutic, organized patient environment.
