About The Position

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) works under the supervision of leadership and under the direction of an RN, LPN, or provider. The PCA administers quality patient care according to established standards and may be required to work in other areas based on staff skills and patient acuity. The position provides exceptional service to patients and customers. The role requires a high school diploma and qualifying PCA education or, at specified locations, qualifying documented recent experience in lieu of those education requirements. Required certifications and other organizational training must be completed within 90 days. The employee must be able to travel between system facilities and off-site locations as needed. Requirements

High school diploma.
Meet PCA education requirements through one of the following: completion of a Unlicensed Assistive Personnel training program within the last three years (excluding Albany caregivers); a fundamentals of nursing course; completion of a certified nursing assistant program and attainment of CNA certification; graduation from a professional or practical nursing program without passing the state licensure examination within the past three years; or graduation from a professional or practical nursing program outside the United States while awaiting licensure in the country.
For St. Joe and Maryville, documented experience within the past three years as a nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician may substitute for the PCA education requirements.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required within 90 days.
CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training, required within 90 days.
Any other training required by the organization, required within 90 days.
Ability to travel between system facilities and off-site locations as needed.
Fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination; ability to answer phones and perform data entry.
Friendly, positive attitude and professional communication with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
Ability to walk, move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and lift, while following good body mechanics.
Ability to gather information about patient conditions, evaluate the effects of care, and visually inspect patients.
Problem-solving, number manipulation, adaptability, data interpretation, calculation, comprehension, explanation, assessment, evaluation, and short- and long-term memory abilities.
Visual, hearing, feeling, smell, and speech sensory abilities.
Ability to work around hazards including needles, cuts, back injury, chemotherapy, body fluids, blood, punctures, scratches, physical injury from combative patients, radiation, blood products, and infection or disease exposure; driving may involve road and weather hazards.

Nice To Haves

In Home Health, six months of hospital or nursing home experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Complete daily activities of daily living to meet patients’ needs, including personal hygiene, dressing, and linen changes.
Feed patients as indicated and record food and fluid intake and output when appropriate.
Take and record vital signs, including pulse oximetry.
Transport patients as appropriate.
Lift, turn, reposition, and ambulate patients, alone or with assistance.
Collect and transport urine, stool, and sputum samples for testing when assigned, and complete point-of-care testing.
Observe and report changes in a patient’s condition to a nurse.
Perform other duties as assigned.
