About The Position

Visiting Angels’ Birmingham office is seeking compassionate Patient Care Assistants to support senior adults and others in need throughout Northern Birmingham and surrounding communities. The role combines companionship with practical care, including light housekeeping, meal preparation, personal care, mobility assistance, and transportation. Caregivers may also have opportunities for advanced training in areas such as dementia and Alzheimer’s care.

Requirements

Passion for serving others and a genuine caregiver orientation.
Knowledge of emergency response and first aid.
Knowledge of housekeeping and cooking, with attention to dietary constraints.
Willingness to follow health and safety standards.
Respectful and compassionate manner.
Good time-management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong ethics.
Physical endurance.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Help clients take prescribed medication.
Assist clients with ambulation and mobility at home and outside, including attending appointments and taking walks.
Assist clients with personal care and hygiene.
Help clients with routine exercises.
Plan and prepare meals with clients’ assistance when they are able.
Shop for clients or accompany them while they shop.
Perform light housekeeping tasks that clients cannot complete on their own.
Provide pleasant and supportive companionship.
Report unusual incidents.
Act quickly and responsibly in emergencies.
