About The Position

Inova Fairfax Cardiology is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist for its Work Queue team. This is a full-time, day-shift position, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role manages patient flow through registration, scheduling, and intake processes using various work queues. It supports patient access and administrative operations while coordinating with patients, departments, insurers, and utilization review teams. The position also requires compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of patient access experience.

• More than 1 year of patient access experience.
• Experience with Epic.
• Work Queue experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient flow through registration, scheduling, and intake processes via various work queues.
• Manage complex patient intake, registration, and documentation cases; resolve errors, confirm authorizations, validate documents, and index them.
• Prepare schedules, track records, and efficiently navigate multiple systems.
• Coordinate documentation and follow up on case-related tasks.
• Assess insurance coverage and initiate financial assistance.
• Apply payer-specific rules, resolve insurance issues, and identify contract limitations.
• Resolve moderate patient concerns and track follow-ups.
• Educate patients about kiosks and report kiosk usage trends.
• Coordinate with departments, tailor patient communications, and support patient advocacy.
• Validate insurance and track referral status.
• Schedule specialty visits and coordinate patient preparation.
• Coordinate transportation for patients with special needs.
• Resolve minor chart issues and assist with release of information.
• Provide documentation to utilization review teams.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
