Patient Access Specialist Sr - Surgical Scheduling
About The Position
Inova Outpatient Oncology Clinics is seeking a Patient Access Specialist Sr. to join its Surgical Scheduling team. This full-time role is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The specialist provides excellent customer service by identifying and meeting customer needs and expectations. The role performs duties related to patient admissions and scheduling medical procedures, verifies and enters insurance information and authorization or referral requirements into databases, and counsels patients about financial liability using available financial counseling tools to support maximum reimbursement. The specialist also helps maintain a safe patient care environment and contributes to team goals.
Requirements
- Two years of healthcare patient access experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Report safety hazards or violations and take appropriate action to protect the environment and guests until help arrives, if necessary.
- Provide and receive direct, honest feedback among team members in a non-punishing manner.
- Explain insurance benefits and patient liability using appropriate communication methods and styles.
- Support scheduling by conducting pre-service activities such as insurance verification and submission.
- Gather information about customer complaints courteously and professionally.
- Troubleshoot individual admission issues in collaboration with other departments and staff.
- Identify and communicate authorization and referral requirements.
- Complete an acceptable volume of work with high levels of accuracy.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
