About The Position

The Patient Access Representative greets customers and facilitates patient registration in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. The role gathers demographic and financial information from patients or their representatives through in-person and virtual interactions, providing Essentia Health with the documents and data needed for appropriate care and accurate, compliant registration and billing.

This position serves as a liaison between patients, Virtual Patient Registration Representatives, and Patient Schedulers. It also handles patient checkout, schedules follow-up appointments according to physician orders, and provides cost estimates and itineraries for upcoming appointments.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Patient Access Representative or Patient Scheduler experience.
• Completion of Healthcare Business Insight’s Patient Access 2nd Level Certification Program within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to obtain demographic details, financial information, and minimum health information needed to support appropriate care.
• Obtain copies of insurance cards and other identification, and update patient information in the medical record as needed.
• Collect point-of-service information and payments, including co-payments and down payments; reconcile the cash drawer and report daily deposit records.
• Maintain assigned work queues according to supervisor instructions and guidance.
• Interact positively and compassionately with patients, coworkers, and others to provide a high level of customer service.
• Answer incoming phone calls, schedule appointments, and refer callers to the clinical team as needed.
• Sanitize registration equipment between uses and restock basic supplies.
• Complete patient checkout, schedule physician-ordered follow-up appointments, and provide cost estimates and appointment itineraries.
• Perform other clerical duties as assigned.
