About The Position

This relief position collects and verifies patient demographic and financial information while adhering to ethical and legal standards, recognizing emergencies, and demonstrating professional characteristics. The role supports patient registration and admissions, pre-registration, switchboard operations, patient and visitor assistance, account payments, and coordination of alarms and code calls. Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is an independent, nonprofit rural healthcare system serving 10 counties in northeastern South Dakota and west-central Minnesota.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or a combination of education and experience.
• Six months of prior hospital/medical or general office experience.

Nice To Haves

• Previous patient registration experience.
• Computer experience.

Responsibilities

• Register and admit patients by obtaining demographic and insurance information, adjusting patient status as appropriate, ensuring legally required forms are completed, and alerting the ER Triage nurse for ER visits.
• Work the daily pre-admission report to pre-register ancillary accounts.
• Answer incoming switchboard calls, determine their purpose, and forward them to appropriate personnel or departments.
• Update the hospital on-call schedule daily.
• Verify and generate daily patient room charges.
• Coordinate alarm monitors and code calls, including summoning appropriate response teams.
• Greet and provide information to patients and visitors.
• Answer patient and visitor questions and direct them to their destinations.
• Receive account payments and reconcile the cash drawer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
