Patient Access Representative
About The Position
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for pre-registration, registration, and admission functions in the Emergency Department at Saint Mary's Hospital. The role performs patient access and billing-related tasks, verifies insurance coverage and benefits, obtains necessary signatures and information, and collects or arranges required payments. The representative also refers self-pay patients to financial counselors and answers patient questions. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week evening position, generally scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. It includes every other weekend and holiday. Training and orientation take place on the day shift, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for two weeks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical terminology skills.
Nice To Haves
- College education preferred.
- Relevant medical office, hospital/physician billing, or patient registration experience preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete and accurate pre-registration, registration, and admission functions.
- Verify insurance requirements and obtain and understand insurance benefits.
- Secure signatures and other key information needed to complete billing and collection functions.
- Collect or arrange for co-insurance and/or other deposit payments.
- Refer self-pay patients to financial counselors and answer patient questions.
