About The Position

The Patient Access Representative registers all patient types within the assigned department and works daily reports and account work queues to maintain the integrity of registration data. The role supports key Revenue Cycle functions by following regulatory requirements, maintaining patient safety through correct identification practices, and providing excellent customer service. This position is in the Admitting Department and is based in Newport News, Virginia, with an evening schedule indicated in the job title.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of billing, customer service, or patient registration experience is preferred.
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification from the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) within one year is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain or validate patient information and register patients in the software system while providing a high level of customer service.
• Obtain and document all necessary demographic and financial data in the system.
• Maintain patient safety through correct patient identification practices and protect the confidentiality of patient protected health information (PHI).
• Work daily reports and account work queues to ensure registration data integrity.
• Handle patient inquiries related to registration.
• Calculate payment information and accept funds and credit accounts for time-of-service collections.
• Adhere to EMTALA rules and regulations when registering patients through the Emergency Department and Obstetrics.
• Complete forms and collect documents as needed based on the registration type.
