About The Position

St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, affiliated with Catholic Health Services of Long Island, is located in Smithtown, NY, on a 110-acre campus that includes a 290-bed community hospital, a 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility, and a 60,000-square-foot medical office building. The hospital is engaged in error-reduction initiatives and pursuing High Reliability. It is recognized for care in stroke and sepsis, has a Center of Excellence designation in Bariatric Surgery, and is the only Baby Friendly hospital in Suffolk County. The Patient Access Representative works as part of the Admitting team to provide coordinated service to patients. The role supports patients through registration, verifies demographic and insurance information, facilitates coverage and authorization checks, collects required payments, makes referrals for uninsured patients, and schedules outpatient testing and pre-surgical encounters.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalency required.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree or business school education preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a doctor's office or Admitting Department preferred.
Computer literacy, good keyboard skills, and proficiency in medical terminology preferred.
Spanish-speaking ability preferred.

Responsibilities

Participate in the Admitting team approach to provide comprehensive, coordinated, seamless service to patients.
Assist patients through the registration process.
Obtain current and accurate demographic and insurance information.
Validate insurance status and determine the amount covered by the private carrier.
Make appropriate referrals to assist uninsured patients.
Collect required fees and co-pays.
Verify participation in managed care programs and authorization for hospital services with the primary care provider.
Schedule ordered testing for outpatients and pre-surgical encounters.
