About The Position

This position greets customers and facilitates patient registration in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. It interviews patients or their representatives through face-to-face and virtual interactions to obtain demographic and financial information, providing Essentia Health with the documents and data needed for appropriate care and compliant, accurate registration and billing.

The Patient Access Representative serves as a liaison between patients, Virtual Patient Registration Representatives, and Patient Schedulers. The role also includes completing patient checkout, scheduling follow-up appointments according to physician orders, and providing cost estimates and itineraries for upcoming appointments.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Patient Access Representative or Patient Scheduler experience.
• Completion of Healthcare Business Insight’s Patient Access 2nd Level Certification Program within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to obtain complete demographic details, financial information, and minimum health information needed to support appropriate care.
• Obtain copies of insurance cards and other forms of identification, and update patient information in the medical record as necessary.
• Collect point-of-service information, identify and collect patient co-payments and down payments, reconcile the cash drawer, and report daily deposit records associated with co-payment collections.
• Maintain assigned work queues according to supervisor instructions and guidance.
• Interact positively and caringly with patients, coworkers, and others to provide a high level of customer service.
• Answer incoming phone calls, schedule appointments, and refer matters to the clinical team as needed.
• Sanitize registration equipment between uses and restock basic supplies.
• Complete other clerical duties as assigned.
• Complete patient checkout, schedule follow-up appointments according to physician orders, and provide cost estimates and itineraries for upcoming appointments.
