About The Position

The Patient Access Representative facilitates and completes the registration process system-wide. The role interviews incoming patients, reviews pre-registration information, enters registration information, verifies insurance, collects payments as required, and provides point-of-service assistance to various service lines to help physicians and patients move through the system for appropriate care. This PRN position is based at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois, and has variable hours. The posting lists compensation of $17.92 to $26.88, commensurate with experience. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of technical experience.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.

Responsibilities

Follow registration policies and procedures to accurately identify patients and insurance and obtain required signatures where applicable.
Review physician orders for necessary components and contact the physician’s office for a new order if an order is incomplete.
Contact or refer to the appropriate individual or department to provide information needed to financially secure an account.
Identify self-pay HAP patients, offer a brochure, and obtain required signatures.
Screen ABNs for medical necessity, explain ABNs to patients, obtain signatures, and review the documents for completeness.
Perform quality assurance of daily registrations.
Collect emergency department copayments, balance cash and credit card payments, and complete a daily shift summary form.
Provide point-of-service assistance for system-wide service lines by performing tasks that facilitate the sharing of information.
