The Patient Access Representative completes patient registration for Emergency Department visits, direct admissions, and other assigned patient access services. Responsibilities include collecting and accurately entering demographic, insurance, billing, and other required information; verifying insurance eligibility and benefits; presenting estimates and discussing patient financial responsibility; and collecting applicable payments. The role includes welcoming and checking in Emergency Department patients, explaining registration forms and documents, answering calls, and completing bedside registration while patients receive care. Direct admissions may require traveling to inpatient nursing floors to complete registration. The representative works with nursing staff, providers, clinical colleagues, and Patient Access teammates in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment. The role requires using multiple computer applications and websites while balancing patient-facing duties, phone calls, and competing priorities, and maintaining patient privacy. Responsibilities rotate between front-desk and bedside registration, include cross-training and coverage at Sumner Regional Medical Center and Sumner Station, and include required education, training, performance improvement activities, and other assigned duties. The position follows a 7-days-on/7-days-off rotation, Thursday through Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with every other weekend, applicable holidays, and participation in an on-call rotation. Work may involve entering patient-care areas and exposure to medical situations, bodily fluids, odors, and other conditions associated with Emergency Department care.
