The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and represents BJC through compassionate, professional, patient-focused service. The role facilitates patients’ entry into BJC facilities and requires emotional intelligence, attention to detail, and knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements. Accurate patient identification and collection of demographic and insurance information support patient safety, reimbursement, and prevention of claim denials. This position is located at Missouri Baptist and is for overnight coverage. The schedule is 32 hours per week, part-time with benefits. The schedule alternates: Week 1 is Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.; Week 2 is Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Training is two weeks, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role includes hospital registration and scheduling across multiple BJC systems, patient identification, insurance verification, and document scanning and retrieval. The representative verifies that orders are complete, signed by the ordering provider, and for the correct test; provides procedure preparation instructions and financial responsibility information; and collects applicable patient payments. The role also requires applying regulatory requirements, including Medicare Secondary Payer rules, HIPAA privacy standards, the Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO requirements. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
