About The Position

The Patient Access Apprentice supports access to healthcare by performing patient registration and related clerical services in a professional, compassionate, and cost-effective manner. The role includes registering inpatient and outpatient patients, processing pre-admission testing and admissions, completing on-site registration for emergency and outpatient services, supporting occupancy control, and contributing to quality improvement. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Good keyboarding skills.
Computer experience.
Customer service skills and medical terminology knowledge.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to perform basic math logic.
Ability to learn quickly and handle multiple tasks while remaining calm and focused.
Detail-oriented.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to listen, communicate effectively, and work closely with others in a team setting.

Responsibilities

Conducts interviews with patients in person or by phone.
Obtains accurate demographic and financial information.
Collects co-pays.
Performs ICD(X) coding.
Performs medical necessity screening and communicates with physician’s offices to obtain the correct diagnosis.
Prepares related forms, patient cards, and ID bracelets.
Receives and disseminates information from other departments, physicians, and patients.
Prepares appropriate and necessary documentation for each patient visit based on the type of visit.
Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development as outlined in performance review.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department or unit.
