The University of New Mexico’s Department of Pathology, Division of Anatomic Pathology, seeks a Neuropathologist at open rank on the Clinician Educator track. The position supports a university-wide workforce expansion. Special consideration will be given to applicants willing to cover surgical pathology as well. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and education. The position provides neurosurgical pathology services at a growing academic tertiary care center with a regional outside-consult service. Faculty participate in diagnostic work and teaching for residents, fellows, and medical students. They may also take part in translational research, though research is not required for promotion. The role involves engagement with clinical services for the NCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center and collaboration with neurooncologists and neurosurgeons through a multidisciplinary tumor board. The position is based at the University of New Mexico Hospital, New Mexico’s only academic medical center and a Level-1 Trauma Center. The division works with TriCore Reference Laboratory, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Human Tissue Repository, the TriCore Research Institute, and the NIH-funded clinical Translational Science Center. Opportunities in artificial-intelligence research are available through a partnership with Albuquerque-based Indica Labs (HALO AI). The position offers a competitive schedule and salary, a six-year promotion cycle, and a stated commitment to work-life balance. The gross room is staffed by four Pathologist Assistants and additional resident coverage, and faculty grossing is not required. Remote/digital frozen-section diagnostic capabilities allow many after-hours calls to be completed from home. No autopsy coverage is required or expected.
