The University of New Mexico’s Department of Pathology, Division of Anatomic Pathology, seeks a highly motivated neuropathologist at open rank on the Clinician Educator track to support university-wide workforce expansion. Special consideration will be given to applicants willing to cover surgical pathology. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and education. The position provides neurosurgical pathology services at a growing academic tertiary care center with a regional outside consultation service. Faculty participate in diagnostic and teaching activities involving residents, fellows, and medical students, and may take part in translational research if desired; research is not required for promotion. The role also engages with the NCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center and includes collaboration with neuro-oncologists and neurosurgeons in a multidisciplinary tumor board. The position is based at the University of New Mexico Hospital, New Mexico’s only academic medical center and a Level-1 Trauma Center. The division partners with TriCore Reference Laboratory, has a fully staffed gross room supported by four Pathologist Assistants and residents, and does not require faculty grossing or autopsy coverage. Remote/digital frozen-section diagnostic capabilities allow many after-hours calls to be completed from home. Research opportunities include collaborations across the university, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Human Tissue Repository, TriCore Research Institute, the NIH-funded clinical Translational Science Center, and Indica Labs’ HALO AI. The university describes a competitive schedule and pay, a six-year promotion cycle, and a strong commitment to work-life balance. Faculty are encouraged to develop professionally in a collaborative environment with opportunities for research and teaching.
