About The Position

Under the direction of a qualified pathologist, the Pathology Assistant provides anatomic pathology services in autopsy, surgical pathology, and specialized services. The position performs or assists with human postmortem and surgical specimen examinations and may perform specialized procedures or duties designated by the supervising pathologist or laboratory director. The role requires competent care for assigned age groups, accurate documentation of services and supplies, appropriate tissue or fluid collection and analysis, and proper restoration of bodies for release to funeral directors.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in health science or a related field.
One year of Pathology Assistant training in an accredited program.
Experience as a Pathologist's Assistant.

Nice To Haves

Membership in the American Association of Pathologist's Assistants.

Responsibilities

Perform or assist with human postmortem examinations, frozen sections, and FNAs.
Obtain appropriate tissue and/or fluid for analysis.
Restore bodies appropriately for release to the funeral director.
Describe gross appearance, perform complete dissection, and select and submit tissue sections for microscopic examination.
Provide competent care for assigned age groups: neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, as applicable.
Ensure accurate documentation of services and supplies provided to patients.
Assist with, initiate, institute, or accomplish specialized procedures or duties as designated by the supervising pathologist or laboratory director.
