About The Position
Johns Hopkins Intrastaff, the internal staffing agency for the Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, is hiring a Pathology Assistant for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The role provides temporary staffing support and works under the general direction and supervision of a pathologist. The Pathology Assistant performs gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including complex surgical resections, and prepares tissue sections for histology. Work schedule options are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 1:00 PM–9:30 PM. The posted pay rate is $65.00–$67.00 per hour, based on experience. Requirements
- Graduate from a NAACLS-accredited post-baccalaureate Pathologists’ Assistant Training Program.
- Be ASCP BOR certified or eligible to take the ASCP BOR exam, or have a bachelor's degree with a major or minor (or equivalent) in biological or allied health sciences and Pathologist Assistant/grossing experience.
- Be certified as a Pathologists’ Assistant by ASCP or a department-approved certifying agency.
- Have at least one year of experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including complex surgical resections, and describe and section tissue for histological preparation.
- Obtain specimens from operating rooms and perform appropriate examination, including frozen sectioning and reporting gross findings.
- Photograph and radiograph specimens as needed.
- Collect and distribute tissue to the tumor bank, researchers, and investigators as needed.
- Verify patient information on specimens and requisitions consistently.
- Dissect specimens accurately and select appropriate tissue sections according to department protocol.
- Describe specimens clearly and concisely.
