About The Position

Works under general supervision of Technologists and/or Pathology Supervisors, who are available to manage or advise on unusual situations. Performs clinical laboratory tests of moderate complexity that require professional training. This role is differentiated from that of a Technologist by the level of independent judgment, test complexity, and responsibility. Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments and perform required procedures within an assigned laboratory section.
  • Ability to interpret test results for accuracy and validity.
  • Physical and visual dexterity necessary to conduct and interpret laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide patient care with consideration for aging processes, human development stages, and cultural differences.
  • Six to twelve months of related, on-the-job laboratory experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare solutions and reagents and determine their suitability according to standard laboratory formulas.
  • Set up and read routine blood and urine cultures to detect pathogenic bacteria and determine organism susceptibility.
  • Perform routine clinical and microscopic testing on urine, stool, and other specimens.
  • Set up laboratory instruments by replenishing reagents, calibrating equipment, and running specimens on automated analyzers.
  • Draw patient blood samples following established procedures and transport specimens to the laboratory.
  • Log specimens received and maintain accurate documentation of all tests performed.
  • Report test results to authorized personnel.
  • Review test results for accuracy and compliance with established quality control standards.
  • Prepare specimens for testing procedures, including cutting, sectioning, staining, and smearing.
  • Properly label and log all processed specimens.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, glassware, and work areas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
