About The Position

The Parts Technician maintains the parts and supply room for an assigned transportation department. The role purchases, stocks, distributes, and maintains inventory of parts, supplies, and materials used to repair and maintain district vehicles. The position works with the Shop Foreman, purchasing department, vendors, and shop personnel to support vehicle maintenance needs and ensure accurate inventory and records. No supervisory responsibility is assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic accounting and inventory record keeping.
Ability to use a personal computer and automated inventory system.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of purchasing procedures.
Three years of experience in inventory parts management.

Responsibilities

Locate and requisition parts, materials, and supplies needed for vehicle repair and maintenance.
Assist the Shop Foreman with accurate records of fuel used and order or requisition fuel.
Contact vendors to check parts and supplies availability.
Work with the purchasing department on specifications, sources, availability, pricing, shipping, and receiving of parts, equipment, and supplies.
Keep parts catalogs and order books current.
Maintain parts and supply inventory and initiate purchase orders to maintain established inventory levels.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors and shop personnel.
Create and maintain required physical and electronic records and files, including computerized inventory records.
Pick up parts orders or arrange for delivery.
Assist with loading and unloading delivery trucks.
Unpack received items and inspect them for damage or defects.
Receive deliveries and verify shipment accuracy against invoices, packing slips, and purchase orders; record discrepancies or damage.
Verify parts and supply prices against state contracts and obtain quotes for special orders and repairs.
Identify and resolve problems with incorrect orders, invoices, and shipments.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques while performing job duties, including lifting and climbing.
Maintain a clean and orderly parts and supply room and equipment.
Perform monthly inventory audits and account for discrepancies.
