About The Position

Alta Equipment Company is hiring a full-time Parts Counter Associate for its South Elgin, Illinois branch. The role processes parts purchases and sales, actively sells parts, supports customer satisfaction, and ensures parts margins meet company policies. It also involves shipping and receiving, maintaining department order and cleanliness, helping with physical inventory counts, and delivering parts to customers. The associate is expected to incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily work, perform other assigned duties, and maintain consistent, reliable attendance, including being ready to work at the designated start time. The expected pay range is $24–$30 per hour. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license. Prior parts-counter experience in heavy equipment, automotive, or truck parts is desired. The role involves customer communication, basic mechanical and parts knowledge, parts-margin understanding, computer use, and occasional lifting of heavy items.

Requirements

A valid driver's license is required.
High school diploma or GED.
Basic mechanical understanding and ability to identify by sight and name the parts of an industry-related piece of equipment.
Excellent communication skills and professionalism.
Knowledge and understanding of the difference between mark-up and gross margin.
Proper phone etiquette.
Basic language skills: ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations.
Basic mathematical skills: ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10s and 100s, and perform these operations using American money and weight, volume, and distance measures.
Basic reasoning ability: ability to use common sense to follow detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to meet the described physical demands, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of 26 to 100+ pounds.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of prior heavy equipment, automotive, or truck parts-counter experience is desired.
A chauffeur's license is preferred.
ASE certifications are preferred.
Forklift operation and hydraulic hose making are preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Epicor/Silk systems, and vendor web portals.
