About The Position

First Student is hiring a part-time Paratransit Van Driver in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The driver safely transports community members to and from appointments, errands, and other destinations, while assisting passengers with boarding, unloading, and mobility aids. The role includes vehicle inspections, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, promptly reporting mechanical issues, following traffic laws and company safety standards, and communicating with passengers, staff, and dispatch about behavior or delays.

This safety-sensitive position is subject to DOT drug testing. The role requires English proficiency for training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other job-related communications. Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications; the listed hourly rate and training hourly rate are both $17.50.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Have a chauffeur license.
• Have a valid driver’s license for at least 3 years.
• Demonstrate English proficiency for job-related training and communications.
• Undergo DOT drug testing as a safety-sensitive employee.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport community members to and from appointments, errands, and other destinations.
• Supervise boarding and unloading at stops and assist passengers entering the vehicle and using mobility aids.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checks of brakes, lights, tires, and emergency exits.
• Promptly report mechanical issues and keep the vehicle clean and sanitary.
• Obey traffic laws and company safety standards.
• Communicate with passengers, staff, and dispatch about behavior or delays.
• Demonstrate leadership and customer service skills.
