About The Position

First Student is hiring a part-time Paratransit Van Driver in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The driver transports community members to and from appointments, errands, and other destinations, helping passengers board and exit the vehicle and assisting with mobility aids. The role requires safe driving, vehicle inspections and upkeep, communication with passengers, staff, and dispatch, and compliance with traffic laws and company safety standards. The position is subject to DOT drug testing as a safety-sensitive role and requires English proficiency for training and work-related communications.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Have a chauffeur license.
• Have held a valid driver’s license for at least three years.
• Be proficient in English for training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other job-related communications.

Nice To Haves

• Experience driving for ride-share companies or taxi services.
• Experience as a teacher, social worker, classroom assistant, hospitality worker, customer service associate, or retail associate.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport community members to and from appointments, errands, and other destinations.
• Supervise boarding and unloading at stops and assist passengers entering the vehicle and using mobility aids.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of brakes, lights, tires, and emergency exits.
• Promptly report mechanical issues and keep the vehicle clean and sanitary.
• Obey traffic laws and company safety standards.
• Communicate with passengers, staff, and dispatch about behavior or delays.
• Demonstrate leadership and customer service skills.
