About The Position

The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Part-Time Professor to teach ESL 130: Academic Enhancement in English for the Fall 2026 semester. This course focuses on refining reading and listening skills, improving critical thinking, and developing self-correction strategies in speaking and writing through activities such as debates, oral presentations, unguided summaries, and academic essays. The course is offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person instruction. Professors teaching the same section mutually agree upon teaching schedules, but the unit reserves the right to select teaching days in cases of limited sections or conflicting schedules.

Requirements

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
Experience with team-teaching.
TESL Certification or equivalent.
Ability to teach in English.
Ability to complete all mandatory legislated training.

Responsibilities

Teach ESL 130: Academic Enhancement in English.
Refine students' reading and listening skills.
Improve students' critical thinking skills.
Develop students' self-correction strategies in speaking and writing.
Incorporate coursework including debates, extended oral presentations, unguided summaries, and academic essays using various organizational patterns.
Mutually agree upon teaching schedules with other professors teaching the same section.
Successfully complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
