About The Position

The Economics Area in the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers. Positions are available as determined by need and funding for teaching assignments in the principles of economics and/or upper level economics courses during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026-27 academic year, which begins August 17, 2026. Assignments are contingent upon class availability, scheduling, budget and enrollments. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.

Requirements

• Master's degree in economics or related field required.
• Must maintain currency in professional field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
• Must reside in the state of California at the time of hire and for the entirety of the appointment.
• Must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment (mandated reporter under California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).

Nice To Haves

• Doctorate in economics or related field preferred.
• Past experience in teaching in higher education and with evidence of excellence in teaching preferred.
• Relevant work experience and professional capabilities preferred.

Benefits

• Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677, Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224, Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523, Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211
