About The Position

The Architecture Department seeks innovative and energetic applicants for part-time lecturer positions in a range of areas for the 2026-2027 academic year. Appointments are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term, so applicants must be available on short notice. Positions are available for the fall semester beginning August 17, 2026, and spring semester beginning January 22, 2027. The majority of available positions are on the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus, but applications are also being accepted for off-campus programs in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. The department offers a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Science in Architecture and currently has approximately 40 faculty and 800 students.

Requirements

Professional degree in architecture (accredited B. Arch., M. Arch. or D. Arch.)
Eligibility for licensure
Professional experience
College-level teaching experience or ability to fulfill a specific instructional need in the department
Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching
Ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language

Doctorate in history and theory of architecture (for ARCH 2221/2222)

Evidence of engagement with contemporary issues in architectural/urban history, design, theory, and/or criticism (for ARCH 4425)
Evidence of knowledge in architectural theory, criticism, and design (for ARCH 4460/4461 and 4462)
Evidence of the ability to apply this knowledge to guide student research, rhetorical argumentation, and advanced architectural production in pursuit of a unique undergraduate architectural thesis (for ARCH 4460/4461 and 4462)
