About The Position

Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in the Anthropology Department. This is an interest pool, not an announcement of a specific open position. The department will review applications as the need arises for new part-time faculty. Applications may be considered for substitute or full-term class assignments. The college serves approximately 80,000 students across four campuses and multiple centers, aiming to make high-quality education accessible and contribute to community economic development.

Requirements

  • MA Degree in Anthropology or a Ph.D. in Anthropology specializing in biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, archaeology or linguistics.
  • For MA candidates, graduate coursework, thesis topic, and vita should show graduate education centered about at least one of the sub-fields.
  • Two years of experience teaching anthropology at an accredited college or university (may include graduate student teaching or part-time assignments).
  • Graduate-level training and coursework in ethnographic methods, social research, or laboratory methods/analysis, or the equivalent of one-year academic experience in the field (may include graduate school projects like summer work in field school environments).
  • For ethnographic area or topical area, faculty must have both graduate-level academic preparation (minimum 9 credit hours or 6 semester hours) in the specialty area and one year of field experience focused on the ethnographic area or topic.
  • Must reside in Oregon or Washington.
  • Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees.
  • Academic credentials must be from a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution with equivalent accreditation.
  • Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies in good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Responsibilities

  • Teach part-time faculty assignments in the Anthropology Department.
  • Potentially teach substitute assignments as well as full-term class assignments.
  • List current PCC courses which you would be able to teach.
  • Create a learning community and play an important role at PCC.
