About The Position

The Parks & Recreation Director plans, organizes, and directs the City’s recreational and athletic programs, recreational facilities and parks, and community events. The position manages full-time and part-time staff, including seasonal employees, in the City’s recreation facilities. The Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the Lenoir Parks & Recreation Master Plan. City residency is required within 12 months of the date of hire. A pre-employment drug screen is required. The position is open until filled, with initial application review beginning October 28, 2026.

Requirements

Completion of at least a four-year degree in recreation management, exercise physiology, or a related field.
Considerable increasingly responsible experience, including at least five years of supervision in organized recreation work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Ability to deal firmly and tactfully with the public and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and their employees.
Good written and oral communication, computer, and budgeting skills.
City residency within 12 months from the date of hire.
Pre-employment drug screen required.
