About The Position

This position is for a Parks Caretaker I, Regular, Range 7 / L71. It is open to any current Municipal employee within the Parks & Recreation department. These positions are represented by the Public Employees, Local 71 and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and Public Employees, Local 71. Employees hired or rehired will be placed at the entrance pay step, with advancement to the maximum step within a pay grade occurring by successive steps. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, as the Municipality of Anchorage cannot provide sponsorship. Applicants will be considered in the following order: Internal applicants under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement, local union dispatched applicants, and then external applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement.

Requirements

• Three (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.
• Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
• Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
• All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
• As a condition of employment, the candidate selected must provide their Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain parks, sports facilities, outdoor recreation facilities, trails and municipality owned grounds.
• Assist with various events.
• Winter duties may include maintaining ice rinks, ski trails, park equipment, and removing snow from trails, parking lots and roadways.
• Summer duties may include collection of litter, mowing turf, cleaning and repairing bike trails, repairing playground equipment, vandalized parks, and maintaining sports fields.
• Operate light equipment and small tools.
• Other duties as assigned.
