About The Position

The FT Parks Caretaker is responsible for maintaining all City parks and open space to ensure safe recreation. This role involves maintaining all park equipment and implementing capital projects. The position requires a commitment to safety, beautification, and the upkeep of park facilities and grounds.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of hand tools, riding lawn mower, gas powered trimmers, skid steer, utility vehicles, tractor, broom and blower.
  • Ability to work weekends/holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to maintain CDL License.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, Parks & Recreation Director, local groups and school district.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computer, telephone, cell phone, portable radio.
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, City employees and the general public.
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • One to three years’ experience in related field
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a CDL (or the ability to obtain within first year), and no limitations affecting employment
  • Must be trained in CPR and first aid (or the ability to obtain within first year)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety in the parks and around all City owned properties
  • Maintain all park buildings and property, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing
  • Maintain the beautification of parks and other City-owned properties by performing duties such as refuse pickup, lawn care and landscaping
  • Maintain and prepare/groom ball fields for various league activities
  • Perform snow removal
  • Inspect and maintain all playground equipment, shelters, park shop, ice rink, trails, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all park vehicles and small equipment
  • Complete capital project construction such as carpentry, concrete work, plumbing and landscaping
  • Review and respond to mail, electronic communications, phone calls, and personal visits
  • Initiate safe work practices
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions
  • Train new staff when required
  • Communicate with local groups and school district regularly
  • Assist with special event setup
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
