About The Position

The Parking Cashier receives payments for parking services and helps facilitate traffic through the gate while providing quality customer service. The role handles cash and other transactions, customer questions and complaints, and shift revenue records. Employees must have a valid state-issued driver’s license with a current address and an acceptable driving record. The Manhattan location requires COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, subject to valid medical or religious accommodation. The salary is $17.00 per hour.

Requirements

Education and/or experience: less than a high school education, up to one month of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A valid state-issued driver’s license with a current address and an acceptable driving record; must be maintained.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and to make change.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations with customers, clients, supervisors, and coworkers.
Ability to follow detailed but standard written or oral instructions and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to use a clock, calculator (optional), or credit card machine to handle transactions.
Ability to maintain a pleasant and mannerly demeanor with the public and on the telephone, and respond effectively to customer problems or complaints.
Must meet the physical demands of the role, with reasonable accommodations available where applicable.

Responsibilities

Be at work on each scheduled day, on time and in uniform.
Count the revenue bank at the beginning of the shift to confirm the starting total.
Collect cash and/or validations and maintain cash security.
Make change and issue receipts or tickets for each transaction.
Calculate or recalculate the amount due from parking tickets and process transactions using the cash register.
Quote parking service prices and direct customers to locations in the city.
Complete lost-ticket forms when original tickets cannot be located.
Resolve customer complaints independently or with a supervisor’s assistance.
Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously.
Keep the booth clean and pick up trash in the surrounding area.
Check that necessary work aids and supplies are available in the booth.
Reconcile shift transaction logs against revenue on hand.
Compile collected revenue when the predetermined amount is reached.
Record amounts received and vehicle counts for facility entries, exits, and vehicles remaining, as applicable, in shift transaction reports.
Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
