Parking Assistant - Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
About The Position
The Parking Assistant provides safety, assistance, and information to patients, guests, and staff entering or exiting Carilion Clinic facilities, including valet parking and traffic control. The role manages traffic flow at major campus entrances to support smooth and efficient patient movement; directs vehicles to designated parking areas; and greets and assists patients and guests in parking areas. The Parking Assistant may notify nurses when patients arrive and operates shuttle service between Carilion facilities, including after-hours transportation for special groups or tours. The position also includes inspecting and managing maintenance for vehicles; parking and retrieving vehicles for people with special needs and special guests; transporting vehicles to overflow parking; issuing valet tickets and documenting vehicle, patient, claim, and key-storage information; and tracking daily ticket counts for Guest Services. The Parking Assistant patrols campus parking areas and contacts Police regarding urgent safety matters, vehicle problems, fire drills, and code red alerts, while helping de-escalate difficult interactions and positioning vehicles to avoid disrupting traffic flow.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED.
- Two years of related experience in customer service or parking.
- Valid Virginia Operators License.
- Adherence to the Qualified Drivers Guidelines and Eligibility Standards.
- Strong communication skills.
- Hospitable, calm, tactful, diplomatic, and professional conduct in all situations.
Responsibilities
- Manage traffic flow at major campus entrances to support smooth patient movement.
- Direct patient transport vans, delivery vehicles, hotel shuttles, funeral homes, and cab companies to designated parking areas.
- Greet, direct, and assist patients and guests entering and exiting parking areas.
- Cross-train in all parking areas.
- Notify nurses when patients arrive, as needed.
- Operate shuttle service for patients, guests, and staff traveling between Carilion facilities.
- Drive, inspect, and manage maintenance for vehicles.
- Provide after-hours transportation for special groups or tours.
- Park and retrieve vehicles for patients and guests with special needs and for special guests.
- Drive vehicles to an overflow lot as needed.
- Issue valet tickets and document vehicle and patient information, claim numbers, and key storage.
- Track and report daily ticket counts for Guest Services.
- Patrol campus parking areas and contact Police about urgent safety situations, vehicle issues, fire drills, and code red alerts.
- De-escalate situations involving hostile guests in parking areas.
- Direct and position vehicles to avoid disrupting traffic flow at entrances.
- Perform other job-related tasks as requested.
