About The Position

The Park Store Associate supports the daily operation of Yellowstone Forever Park stores at visitor centers and contact stations throughout the Greater Yellowstone National Park Area. Yellowstone Forever is the official nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park, working to protect, preserve, and enhance the park through education and philanthropy. Associates represent the organization on the front lines, often working in partnership with National Park Service naturalist rangers. They assist visitors with educational-product purchases, explain and promote Yellowstone Forever’s supporter program, share information about the park, and promote Yellowstone Forever Institute classes and courses. The role calls for excellent customer service, comfort with technology, and enthusiasm for Yellowstone National Park and its preservation. This seasonal, full-time, non-exempt position is based in locations assigned within the Greater Yellowstone National Park Area. The 2027 summer-season role runs for no longer than six months, with flexible start and end dates based on store openings and closings, generally April or May through September or October. Interior park stores operate during the summer season; Gardiner and Mammoth stores operate year-round. Old Faithful’s last day of the 2027 summer season is October 31. Travel into Yellowstone, throughout the Greater Yellowstone area, and to other locations may be required.

Requirements

High school graduation or G.E.D.
Demonstrated customer service skills.
Proficiency with computers and internet applications.
Ability to proficiently use a cash register and adding machine.
Ability to accurately handle cash and complete daily closing reports.
Ability to work at elevations approaching 8,000 feet.
Strong commitment to the mission of Yellowstone Forever.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
Ability to lift boxes or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds with support of lift equipment.
Ability to represent Yellowstone Forever in a courteous and professional manner.
If driving vehicles, a valid U.S. driver’s license and a favorable driving record for insurance purposes must be maintained.
Satisfactory criminal background check as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Greet visitors and become familiar with merchandise to help customers make purchases.
Promote Yellowstone Forever’s supporter program and invite customers to join.
Advocate for Yellowstone Forever Institute classes and course offerings and promote them to customers and supporters.
Process sales using a Point of Sale (POS) computer system.
Use technology and problem-solving skills to provide superior customer service.
Complete daily cash reports and closing reports.
Answer questions about the park accurately or refer visitors to another source when necessary.
Stock and clean the store and maintain high presentation standards.
Work collaboratively with staff across the organization, volunteers, and cooperating partners.
Represent Yellowstone Forever and its mission accurately, positively, courteously, and professionally.
Help foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Travel into Yellowstone, throughout the Greater Yellowstone area, and to other locations as required.
Carry out store operations in accordance with Yellowstone Forever procedures and standards.
Perform other tasks assigned by the Park Store Manager, Park Stores Operations Manager, Retail Operations Manager, or other designated leadership.
