About The Position

The Park Maintenance Program Supervisor (PMPS) supervises staff, including Park Technicians, long-term contractual staff, seasonal employees, volunteers, and others. The role is responsible for maintaining grounds, facilities, and equipment within a park, forest, or recreation area; assisting with new facilities; and performing maintenance work. Administrative duties include preparing mileage forms and fuel reports, scheduling, approving time, and other assigned tasks. Maintenance is the primary function, although the supervisor may occasionally be assigned other operational duties. The position receives general supervision from a Park Services Supervisor, Park Services Assistant Manager, Park Services Manager, or another designated official, depending on the size and scope of the park operation. The position leads and directs maintenance personnel through written and verbal instructions, on-site supervision, and follow-up. It performs general maintenance, including basic plumbing, minor electrical repairs, grounds maintenance, litter pickup, and minor repairs and cleaning in restrooms, administrative buildings, and exhibit buildings. It also prepares contract specifications, procures supplies and materials, tracks and administers warranty agreements, supervises contractors, and accepts projects for the Department of General Services. The supervisor monitors maintenance budgets, resolves maintenance problems, and recommends and reviews plans. In addition to maintaining park buildings and grounds, employees assist with day-to-day park operations, including opening and closing facilities, helping park visitors, and supporting special events. Employees are required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays and respond to facility emergencies after hours. Some assignments may require a medical examination, county, regional, or park residency after permanent appointment, heavy-equipment operator licensing, providing a telephone number for emergencies, water-plant-operator training and certification, and lifting objects weighing up to 40 or more pounds.
