About The Position

PQC is seeking experienced, civilian Paramedics to join the Specialty Care Team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. This role involves caring for critically ill and injured patients during ground transport and assisting in the Emergency Department when not on transport missions. The position requires expert clinical judgment, proficiency with advanced procedures and specialized equipment, and close collaboration with medical teams to ensure safe, continuous care across transport, emergency, and hospital settings.

Requirements

  • Possess and maintain certification as an NREMT, NRAEMT, NRP from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or applicable state EMT certification.
  • Ability to meet credentialing requirements
  • Completion of state-approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to remain calm in emergencies
  • Ability to lift and move patients and equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in critical care or emergency transport preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced life support and critical care during inter-facility transports
  • Perform patient assessments and deliver emergency treatment
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and oxygen
  • Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, cardioversion, and Rapid Sequence Induction
  • Monitor cardiac activity and respond to cardiac emergencies following AHA guidelines
  • Operate and maintain ambulances and emergency vehicles (EVOC required)
  • Document patient care clearly and accurately in electronic systems
  • Assist with Trauma and Code Blue responses
  • Support patient transfers and coordinate with receiving facilities
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and vehicle readiness
  • Follow infection control and safety procedures
  • Participate in training, drills, and quality improvement activities
  • Provide education and training to staff as assigned
  • Maintain productivity comparable to peers
  • Attend required annual training
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and documentation standards
  • Respond to emails and communications in a timely manner
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews
