About The Position

Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) is a non-profit organization established in 2003, funded by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). CCLA provides free civil legal services to low-income and eligible residents of Broward County, with a mission to ensure equal justice for underserved communities through quality and innovative legal aid. The organization offers legal advocacy in Family Law & Victims of Crime, Economic Advocacy & Community Health, and Senior Law. CCLA is currently seeking two (2) Paralegals for its Family Law & Victims of Crime Unit. These roles involve supporting clients through all case stages under attorney supervision, including client intake, case management, discovery, e-filing, calendaring, investigations, client communication, drafting legal documents, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. Familiarity with domestic violence, criminal law, elder abuse, and trauma-informed services is essential.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in paralegal studies or a related field, paralegal certification, and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred; however, relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in family law or related legal field preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Adobe Pro.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish preferred).
  • Strong understanding of family court procedures and legal documentation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of cases and work effectively and efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Compassionate and client-focused with an understanding of trauma-informed legal assistance.

  • Must pass a background check before employment begins.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to victims of crime, including human trafficking, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse, under attorney supervision.
  • Assist with legal matters such as Injunctions for Protection, Dissolution of Marriage, Paternity, Mediation of time-sharing and child support, and family court motions.
  • Manage all phases of case work, including client intake and interviewing, discovery, e-filing, investigations, client communication, letter writing, and drafting pleadings.
  • Assist applicants and clients with completing necessary forms, application materials, and compliance documents accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure all forms and documentation comply with Court requirements and standards.
  • Conduct client interviews to gather relevant information and understand their legal needs.
  • Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and respectful assistance to clients.
  • Maintain detailed and organized case files in the case management system.
  • Calendar court dates and deadlines for attorneys.
  • Track and follow up on case progress to ensure timely and efficient case management.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, court staff, opposing counsel, judicial staff, Clerk of Court staff, law enforcement, interpreters, and process servers.
  • Coordinate with community organizations to provide referrals for holistic client support.
  • Comply with all program requirements, including case management, contemporaneous note-taking, timekeeping, timely reporting, outreach, professional development, grant reporting, case management system entry, and attending mandated meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Management, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s).
