About The Position

The Paralegal supports workers’ compensation matters in a fast-paced, high-technology office environment. The role requires workers’ compensation experience, attention to detail, a professional demeanor, strong proofreading and written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage a large volume of work. The position is an in-office role near Main and Lady Streets. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch (37.5 hours per week).

Requirements

Workers’ compensation experience.
Attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
Ability to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional proofreading and written and verbal communication skills.
Strong timekeeping practices.
Ability to learn new technology.
Ability to commute reliably or relocate before starting work.

Nice To Haves

Several years of experience handling workers’ compensation cases.
Bachelor’s degree; other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

Summarize medical files and discovery requests.
Draft correspondence, pleadings, and correspondence to clients and the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission (SCWCC).
Schedule mediations, depositions, and other events.
Coordinate litigated files and organize file materials.
Prepare settlement documentation and assist with hearing preparation.
Draft South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission forms, certificates of service, production requests, and clinchers.
Review and summarize employment and medical records.
Manage attorney calendars and matter deadlines.
Maintain strong timekeeping practices.
