About The Position

Performs responsible paraprofessional legal, administrative and case management support work for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office Recovery Court Program. Serves as liaison to the Historic Triangle Recovery Court and supports assigned attorneys with specialty court operations, participant case management, court preparation, legal documentation, and interagency coordination. Work involves maintaining participant records, preparing dockets and court materials, tracking program compliance information, and supporting Recovery Court operations. Serves as liaison between the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Recovery Court team member, court personnel, treatment providers, law enforcement agencies, and program participants. Maintains Recovery Court participant files, records, case management information, and related documentation. Prepares weekly Recovery Court dockets, hearing packets, participant status updates, and related court materials. Assists assigned attorneys with legal documentation preparation, correspondence, notices, court forms, scheduling, and case tracking. Coordinates and communicates with multidisciplinary team members regarding participant status, hearings, appointments, compliance requirements, and case updates. Tracks participant compliance documentation, court dates, sanctions, incentives, program milestones, and other program-related information. Maintains electronic case management systems and databases utilized by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and Recovery Court program. Assists with gathering, organizing, maintaining, and securing confidential legal, treatment, and participant information. Attends Recovery Court sessions, staff meetings, team meetings, and related proceedings as required. Composes correspondence, prepares reports, maintains records, and performs administrative functions related to specialty court operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and completion of a paralegal program or certification as a legal assistant, recognized by the American Bar Association, or graduation from a college or university with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in criminology or a closely related field, and some experience in a prosecutor’s office, criminal defense office, legal environment, criminal justice setting, specialty court program, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of criminal law office procedures and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal terminology and practices, including knowledge of proper legal citation form.
  • Thorough knowledge of court procedures, legal documentation, case management practices, and specialty court processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidential legal, treatment, and participant information.
  • Ability to establish priorities, organize workflow, maintain accurate records, track participant information, and manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including attorneys, judges, court personnel, treatment providers, law enforcement agencies, and program participants.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic case management systems.
  • Ability to use word processing and peripheral computer equipment with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment checks to include criminal history and background checks.
