About The Position

The Paralegal I, Election Protection Hub will provide legal filing, organization, research, and administrative support to PRP’s EPH team of attorneys. This role will assist with coordinating the team’s legal work, supporting high-volume legal filings, and collaborating with other internal teams as needed. Because the role is fully remote, the ideal candidate will possess both the technical proficiency and strong communication skills needed to keep a remote team of lawyers organized, while proactively communicating timelines, capacity, and filing needs across multiple fast-moving matters. This position reports to the EPH team’s Deputy Director but will broadly assist other attorneys across the team’s legal briefing, technical assistance, and rapid response work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of paralegal or legal assistance experience.
  • Experience formatting, cite checking, and filing briefs and other litigation materials in federal or state court.
  • Experience creating tables of contents and tables of authority for briefs in Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with federal court filing systems, including PACER.
  • Experience with proactive project management and managing up/reporting to a number of stakeholders.
  • Experience with or the ability and desire to learn new tech tools quickly. PRP staff use Office 365, Zoom, Slack, Salesforce, Asana, Campaign Monitor, and program/document management software. Candidates need not have used all of these tools before, but must be willing and able to learn to use these tools upon joining PRP.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Strong communication and research skills, including reviewing local court rules for filing requirements and drafting basic legal filings (e.g. pro hac vice applications and cover motions).
  • Ability and willingness to complete administrative tasks in support of team goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assembling, formatting, and submitting court and other governmental filings, including tables of authorities and exhibits, to support the team’s litigation and amicus portfolio.
  • Supporting court filings, including federal court filings through PACER, and ensuring filings comply with applicable court rules and procedural requirements.
  • Calendaring important litigation deadlines.
  • Ensuring that important case filings are saved to each case file and that case files are orderly and up-to-date.
  • Conducting basic legal and factual research using tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Providing cite-checking, Bluebooking, and formatting support by reviewing and correcting citations, placeholders, formatting inconsistencies, and filing issues in draft briefs and legal documents.
  • Supporting urgent or time sensitive litigation efforts, including occasional evening or weekend work (with as much advance notice as is possible).
  • Managing systems, workflows, and operational organization for a remote team.
  • Maintaining files to ensure efficient and consistent document retention and storage.
  • Participating in and coordinating Zoom meetings, including circulating agendas, compiling supporting materials, and taking detailed notes as necessary.
  • Helping to organize EPH team projects and tasks, including by using PRP’s task management platform, Asana.
  • Collaborating with PRP’s Operations Team to efficiently manage communications and contracts with external cohorts, e.g., clients, contractors, etc.
  • Learning and eventually mastering PRP’s software and information management systems in order to update those systems and support team-wide legal operations and records management.
  • Supporting EPH-related contributions to grant proposals, reports, and external communication.

Benefits

  • The determined salary range for this Level 2 role is set at $74,630 - $100,970. Exact salary will be based on candidate experience. For internal equity purposes, PRP will not negotiate with candidates outside of the role’s designated range.
