About The Position

The Election Judge assists and reports directly to the Elections Administrator in election procedures. This position is responsible in part for the integrity of the election process and requires a high level of confidentiality, knowledge of industry standards, and precision to detail. The employment term length will begin in June with an expected end date of November. The position requires applicants to declare their major party affiliation if they are affiliated with a major political party in Minnesota. If applicants are not affiliated with a major political party, they must state they are unaffiliated with a major political party. However, the ability of applicants to serve without major political party affiliation will be limited due to party balance requirements in conducting position duties. This is a temporary position to assist during approximately an 8-week timeframe before both the state primary and state general elections.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to vote in Minnesota.
  • Must be able to read, write or speak the English language.
  • Must not be the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling or stepsibling of any election judge serving in the same precinct or of any candidate at that election.
  • Must not be domiciled with any candidate on the ballot in that election.
  • Must not be a candidate in the election.
  • Experience in customer service, election judge and/or city or township clerk or experience in related fields.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to election integrity.
  • Enjoy assisting and serving diverse populations.
  • Handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Work as a team member and follow directions.
  • Must complete the mandatory election judge training.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain such license.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all processes and procedures to ensure the security of elections.
  • Serves on the County Absentee Ballot Board.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
