About The Position

This position provides support for a student(s) with disabilities during an after-school extra-curricular activity. The role involves assisting the student(s) with a positive behavior support plan, encouraging social engagement with peers, and supporting task completion as directed by the activity facilitator. Effective communication with students and staff is essential, as is fostering student independence when appropriate.

Requirements

• Possess a two-year or four-college degree graduate
• Possess a current CPR Certified (First aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
• Possess the ability to work with children with disabilities
• Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others
• Possess the ability to communicate with adults and children
• Possess excellent writing skills
• Possess the ability to learn about the characteristics of specific disabilities
• Possess the ability to learn and be trained a positive behavior support plan

Responsibilities

• Assisting a student(s) with special needs during a High School extra curricular activity
• Supporting the student(s) with a positive behavior support plan
• Encouraging the student(s) to engage and participate socially with peers in the extra curricular activity
• Encouraging the student(s) to perform tasks directed by the facilitator of the extra curricular activity
• Effective and appropriate communication with students and staff
• Encouraging independence of students when deemed appropriate dependent on the requirements of the activity
