About The Position

South Fayette Township School District is seeking two Personal Care Paraeducators to support students with disabilities during an after-school extra-curricular activity called Best Buddies in the Middle School. This role involves providing direct support to students, encouraging their social engagement, and assisting them in performing tasks as directed by the activity facilitator. The paraeducators will work under the supervision of the Director of Student Support Services, Club Sponsors, and Building Principals.

Requirements

• Possess a two-year or four-college degree graduate.
• Possess a current CPR Certified (First aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
• Possess the ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Possess the ability to communicate with adults and children.
• Possess excellent writing skills.
• Possess the ability to learn about the characteristics of specific disabilities.
• Possess the ability to learn and be trained a positive behavior support plan.

Responsibilities

• Assisting a student(s) with special needs during a Middle School extra curricular activity.
• Supporting the student(s) with a positive behavior support plan.
• Encouraging the student(s) to engage and participate socially with peers in the extra curricular activity.
• Encouraging the student(s) to perform tasks directed by the facilitator of the extra curricular activity.
• Effective and appropriate communication with students and staff.
• Encouraging independence of students when deemed appropriate dependent on the requirements of the activity.
