About The Position

The HomeLink Assistant contributes to Hoquiam School District’s mission of fostering meaningful relationships, engaged learners, adaptive pathways, and community connections by supporting students in both online and in-person learning environments. This position provides one-on-one and small group instructional support, assists teachers with classroom tasks, and promotes student success through academic, social-emotional, and physical engagement. The HomeLink Assistant plays a key role in helping students access online curriculum, build positive relationships, and develop the skills needed for academic success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Must meet at least one of the following three options: Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree, Met a rigorous standard of quality through a formal state or local academic assessment
  • Knowledge of high school-level math and ability to pass a high school-level math assessment
  • Ability to provide one-on-one and small group instructional support
  • Strong organizational, clerical, and computer skills
  • Competency in using technology and online learning tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to support a variety of student and instructional needs
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, including those with challenging behaviors
  • Ability to monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License (if required)
  • Type II driving permit (or willingness to obtain one if required)
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend without restriction
  • Ability to reach, grasp, handle, and grip on a continuous basis
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. independently and up to 100 lbs. with assistance

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary coursework or training preferred
  • Experience working with students in a school or educational setting preferred
  • Experience working with middle and/or high school students, preferably in alternative settings
  • Understanding of social-emotional development and student-centered practices preferred

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
  • Lead and support social-emotional learning activities to promote student well-being and positive peer interactions
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and tact in all interactions
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student, staff, and school matters
  • Maintain positive and collaborative relationships with faculty and staff
  • Provide individualized support to students working on online courses and assignments
  • Assist students in understanding and completing course content through one-on-one and small group instruction
  • Reinforce and support instruction as directed by certificated staff
  • Apply best practices in instructional support and student engagement
  • Monitor student engagement and progress, reporting concerns to teaching staff
  • Assist in scoring student work and maintaining progress records as directed
  • Utilize online platforms and resources to support student learning
  • Maintain awareness of curriculum, student goals, and program expectations
  • Support implementation of individualized and alternative learning strategies
  • Assist with specially designed instruction and document student performance
  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting diverse academic and behavioral needs
  • Support students in developing independent learning skills within an online environment
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities
  • Maintain knowledge of online curriculum platforms such as Odysseyware and Edgenuity
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and adapt to new instructional tools and strategies
  • Support a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Assist in maintaining communication between students, staff, and families as directed
  • Help remove barriers to learning by supporting student engagement and access
  • Support student participation in physical activity, including supervision and assistance in gym or movement-based activities
  • Promote a sense of belonging and connection within the school community
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and common sense
  • Perform occasional pushing and pulling depending on assignment
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and the public
  • Support student learning, engagement, and behavior plans
  • Supervise students in classroom and activity settings, including movement-based environments
  • Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of educational and medical records
