About The Position

The Painter performs painting work on buildings, counters, cabinets, and other surfaces using standard methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying. The role also requires knowledge of rubbing down fine-textured finishes and marbling, mottling, and graining techniques. The employee may work across multiple locations and may be required to follow a rotating schedule to accommodate business needs. Work includes preparing surfaces and coating materials, building up and smoothing surfaces, and ensuring finishes meet required matching, texture, and thickness specifications. The position involves working indoors and outdoors, often around dirt, spray, and fumes, with occasional exposure to bad weather and risks associated with ladders and scaffolds. The role is with the NEXCOM Enterprise and supports its mission of providing quality goods and services at a savings and supporting quality-of-life programs for military members, retirees, reservists, and their families.

Requirements

At least one year of general experience providing the knowledge and ability to perform standard painting methods, including brushing, rolling, and spraying various surfaces.
Five years of specialized experience performing professional painting work, including rubbing down fine-textured finishes; marbling, mottling, and graining techniques; and surface preparation and coating methods, including those designed to produce special effects.
Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally handles materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more.
One year of high school education may substitute for three months of general experience, up to a high school diploma or GED substituting for one year of general experience.

Responsibilities

Paints a variety of surfaces according to directions using brushing, rolling, spraying, and other standard methods.
Prepares surfaces using accepted preparation, coating, and finishing methods, including techniques for special effects.
Blends, tints, tones, and mixes coating materials and additives.
Builds up, shapes, and levels surfaces using metal, synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds.
Smooths surfaces with abrasives, evens dents through burning-in processes, and treats surfaces with precoating agents.
Ensures coating finishes meet requirements for match, texture, and thickness.
Uses brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, straight edges, viscosity testers, graining devices, and other tools and equipment.
Performs other related work as assigned.
