About The Position

The Maintenance Worker performs facilities maintenance involving two or more skilled trades, or with significant emphasis in a higher-level licensed trade such as electrical, HVAC, or plumbing. The role involves intermediate-level work, with increasing independence as training and experience grow, as well as a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks using standard facilities-operation and maintenance methods. Duties include maintenance and repair across plumbing, washers and dryers, HVAC, electrical systems, carpentry, and painting. The employee identifies defects, plans repairs, selects appropriate tools and testing devices, and completes work according to accepted trade practices and applicable specifications. Work may be guided by blueprints, manufacturer instructions, manuals, and maintenance specifications. The employee maintains a work-order log, follows up on requests, reports work status to a supervisor, and logs contractor trouble calls when appropriate. Work is spot-checked through documented inspection reports. Recurring assignments may be handled independently; unfamiliar problems are referred to the supervisor. The employee follows DOD and Navy regulations, completes required safety and security training, and observes safety and environmental rules. A state driver's license may be required if travel to other facilities is part of the job; applicants will be notified if this is a condition of appointment. Work takes place indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to extreme weather or temperatures and occasional dusty or dirty conditions at facilities undergoing repair, maintenance, or renovation. Personal protective equipment is provided. The position may require weekend and holiday work, rotating shifts outside normal duty hours, recall to duty, and overtime, including during emergencies. Physical demands include standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, and kneeling, as well as lifting and carrying supplies and equipment. Other related duties may be assigned.
