Packaging Operator | KS Days
About The Position
Operates a machine which bags finished products. This role is responsible for ensuring the packaging of dry pet food products is done correctly by machine. The operator checks holding bins for proper products, ensures codes on bags are accurate, and verifies that product bags seal properly. They accurately document production lots used for quality assurance and work with other employees to rotate positions. The operator reports any line or machine problems to the Packaging Lead and participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and accepting responsibility to identify and resolve issues. They are familiar with Simmons’ operating systems and understand their role in supporting these systems, including the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns or improvement ideas. Requirements
- Previous machine operation skills, particularly packaging equipment skills preferred.
- Manufacturing experience in pet food production preferred.
- Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
- Must be able to work on feet for entire shift.
- Must be able to lift and stack up to 55 pounds of packaged product from floor to shoulder height and empty package into packaging cylinder repetitively, or hold 55 pounds of finished product inside a bag.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of up to 150 feet.
- Must be able to work inside or outside.
- Will use head covering, ear plugs, safety glasses, non-skid steel toed boots, and any other protective equipment as needed or required.

Responsibilities

- Coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
- Attends appropriate team meetings.
- Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues.
- Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
- Actively looks for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
- Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
- Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
- Considers the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
