About The Position

Operates a machine which bags finished products. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate packaging of dry pet food products, checking holding bins for correct products, verifying bag codes, and ensuring proper bag seals. The operator also documents production lots for quality assurance and collaborates with team members for position rotation. They report any line or machine issues to the Packaging Lead. The position requires active participation in team concepts, programs, and policies, fostering cohesiveness, and resolving issues. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) is expected, along with understanding the impact of individual actions and communicating concerns or improvement ideas. The role also involves performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
  • Must be able to work on feet for entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 55 pounds of packaged product from floor to shoulder height and empty package into packaging cylinder repetitively, or hold 55 pounds of finished product inside a bag.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of up to 150 feet.
  • Must be able to work inside or outside.
  • Will use head covering, ear plugs, safety glasses, non-skid steel toed boots, and any other protective equipment as needed or required.
  • Previous machine operation skills, particularly packaging equipment skills preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience in pet food production preferred.
  • Familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understanding the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
